-- it is a certification that can be obtained by the beach, marine or sustainable boating tourism operator and serves as an eco- level.

-- The certification program is run by international, non-governmental, non profit organisation FEE ( the foundation for environmental education) based in Copenhagen,Denmark.

-- The program was started in in France in 1985 and has been implemented in Europe since 1987 and in areas outside Europe since 2001.

-- Four major point--
1- environmental education and information.
2- bathing water quality.
3- environment management and conservation.
4- safety and services in the beaches.

-- Highest blue flag certification- Spain, Greece, France.

-- Eight Indian beaches for the blue flag certification --
1- shivrajpur in Gujarat
2- Ghoghla  in daman and deep
3- kasarkod and 4- Padubidri beach in Karnataka.
5- kappad in Kerala
6- Rushikonda in Andhra Pradesh
7- Golden beach of Odisha
8- Radhanagar in Andaman and nicobar.
